この度「FLAT／ふらっと」は、日本語を話す医療者さんと患者さんを繋ぐネットワーク作りを行い、日本人コミュニティーのサポートをする為のボランティア活動を、ニューヨークを拠点に新しく開始した非営利団体です。
アメリカで生活をする中、思わぬ事故や病気、また障害を持つ方など専門医が必要となった時に、英語の壁を乗り越えて必要な情報を得たり、複雑なアメリカの医療保険事情を理解するのは、ご本人だけでなく介護をする方にとっても、とても困難です。
また、アメリカにお住まいの日本人／日系人の皆さんの高齢化が進み、孤立した生活を送られているシニアは年々増加しています。
私たちはこのような問題を真摯に受け止め、具体的なサポートの方法を模索し、できる事から行動することにしました。
FLATビシネスモデルを取り入れ、この活動に関わるメンバーは上下の関係を持たない事を約束し、また世代交代の整った、次世代の団体にする事を目的としています。
「FLAT」はサポート体制をただ今整えているところで、まだまだ十分ではありませんが、日本人コミュニティーの皆さまが必要とする、健康に関わるプログラムを、これからも増やして行きたいと思っています。
