A primeira vez que me deparei com o câncer foi em 1997 quando minha mãe foi diagnosticada com mieloma múltiplo, um câncer da medula óssea ainda incurável.
Naquela época não havia informações em português voltadas aos pacientes. Buscando na internet conheci a International Myeloma Foundation (Fundação Internacional do Mieloma) e lá encontrei apoio e informação que minha família e eu necessitávamos para poder encarar o tratamento de frente. Soubemos que não estávamos sozinhos e que havia esperança. E isto fez toda a diferença.Em 2004, em uma parceria com a Dra. Vânia Tietsche de Moraes Hungria, foi fundada no Brasil a International Myeloma Foundation Latin America
Acreditava que fosse essa minha única missão, mas a vida é cheia de surpresas.
Em janeiro de 2008, através de uma mamografia de rotina, fui diagnosticada com câncer de mama. Passei de cuidadora à paciente. Após me recuperar do tratamento e refletir, percebi que as coisas não acontecem por acaso. Apoiada na minha experiência à frente da International Myeloma Foundation Latin America e da minha experiência como cuidadora e como paciente, nasceu o Instituto Espaço de Vida.
Nosso portal oferece informações atualizadas sobre diagnósticos, opções de tratamento e terapias de suporte, apresentadas em um formato de fácil entendimento. Queremos que os pacientes, familiares e cuidadores se sintam preparados para tomar as decisões sobre seu tratamento numa parceria com seu médico, buscando a cura e a melhora na qualidade de vida – Porque a vida nos apresenta desafios nem sempre fáceis de serem vencidos, mas juntos somaremos forças, esperanças e positivismo e caminharemos lado a lado em direção a uma vida melhor.

The first time I came across cancer was in 1997 when my mother was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a still incurable bone marrow cancer.
At that time there was no information in Portuguese aimed at patients. Searching the internet I found the International Myeloma Foundation and there I found support and information that my family and I needed to be able to face treatment head on. We knew we were not alone and that there was hope. And that made all the difference. In 2004, in a partnership with Dr. Vânia Tietsche de Moraes Hungary, the International Myeloma Foundation Latin America was founded in Brazil
I believed that this was my only mission, but life is full of surprises.
In January 2008, through a routine mammogram, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I went from caregiver to patient. After recovering from the treatment and reflecting, I realized that things don’t just happen. Based on my experience at the head of the International Myeloma Foundation Latin America and my experience as a caregiver and patient, the Espaço de Vida Institute was born.
Our portal provides up-to-date information on diagnoses, treatment options and supportive therapies, presented in an easy-to-understand format. We want patients, family members and caregivers to feel prepared to make decisions about their treatment in partnership with their doctor, seeking a cure and an improvement in the quality of life – Because life presents us with challenges that are not always easy to overcome, but together we will add strength, hope and positivism and walk side by side towards a better life.
