The interregional public movement “Movement Against Cancer” was created by cancer patients, their relatives and representatives of the medical community who are not indifferent to the problem of oncology with the support of the Equal Right to Life non-profit partnership in order to assist the state, health authorities and medical organizations in creating a comprehensive accessible system of prevention and diagnosis and treatment of oncological and oncohematological diseases of citizens and their full provision with the necessary medicines, as well as for the purpose of medical education of citizens and the fight against propaganda of anti-scientific, unconfirmed by medical science and clinical practice methods of treatment.
The core of the Movement is made up of people who have already managed to stop the disease or are striving to do so. However, the “Movement Against Cancer” is not a narrow patient organization. This is precisely a broad social movement, which brought together the most prominent oncologists, public opinion leaders, politicians, businessmen, people of creative professions, athletes and journalists.
Branches of the “Movement Against Cancer” operate in 15 constituent entities of the Russian Federation, these are the Amur Region, Moscow, Moscow Region, Nizhny Novgorod Region, Novgorod Region, Novosibirsk Region, Primorsky Territory, Republic of Karelia, Republic of Tatarstan, Rostov Region, St. Petersburg, Samara region, Sverdlovsk region, Ulyanovsk region, Chelyabinsk region.
What does the Cancer Movement stand for?
State programs to improve oncological care, as well as the drug supply system, should guarantee access to all oncological and oncohematological patients, regardless of the stage of the disease and the degree of disability, to the most modern and effective means of diagnosis and treatment, as is customary in most developed countries of the world.
All expenses for drug provision of oncological patients, innovative methods for diagnosing individual characteristics of a tumor should be covered by the state, which guarantees the provision of free medical care.
In Russian oncology, the most modern standards and treatment protocols should be applied, reflecting the latest advances in medicine and adopted in developed countries.
What does the Cancer Movement do?
Interacting with deputies of the State Duma and the Federal Assembly, the leadership of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, Roszdravnadzor, the Compulsory Medical Insurance Fund and health authorities in the regions, the Movement Against Cancer seeks from legislative and executive authorities to make decisions in the interests of cancer patients and improve the quality and accessibility of cancer care .
Representatives of the Movement are members of the Public Council and the Council of Public Organizations for the Protection of Patients’ Rights under the Ministry of Health of Russia, the Public Council for the Protection of Patients’ Rights under the Federal Service for Surveillance in Healthcare (Roszdravnadzor) and its branches under the territorial bodies of Roszdravnazdora in the constituent entities of the Russian Federation, contribute to the implementation of state programs and projects aimed at increasing the availability and quality of oncological care for the population, aimed at promoting a healthy lifestyle and responsible attitude to one’s health.
As part of an agreement with Roszdravnadzor on the exchange of data, the Movement participates in the formation of a register of patients with cancer.
The movement acts as a partner of the state and health authorities in promoting medical examination programs and mass screening of oncological diseases among the population. To do this, the “Movement Against Cancer” holds in the capital and regions:
* Schools of patients (with the participation of oncologists, activists of the Movement, lawyers, psychologists);
* Forums “Movement Against Cancer” (with the participation of patients, doctors, government officials, opinion leaders);
* various socially useful events, incl. aimed at prevention and early detection of cancer (“Onco-Dozor”, pickets, exhibitions);
* distributes information and educational literature and speaks in the media.
The Movement Against Cancer cooperates with the main patient organizations in Russia and coordinates joint actions with them.
The movement maintains partnerships with the largest research centers in the field of oncology, pharmaceutical companies, medical institutions in the regions of the country.
